Aquavit Angelica & Caraway

Iceland – a land of legends, ancient traditions, and untamed beauty. Dive into its heart with every sip of Aquavit Angelica & Caraway. Each bottle crafted by Spirits Of Iceland is a tribute to the island's rich history and awe-inspiring landscapes.

Caraway, the spirit's robust spine, weaves a tale. Although a touch of it grows wild on Viðey Island, it's a rare find. So, to ensure consistent quality and taste, we hand-select the finest caraway seeds from Finland. It's this commitment that brings a deep, earthy flavor to the fore.

The essence

However, the true essence of Iceland lies in Angelica. Handpicked each June from the verdant fields of Hvanneyri, this aromatic herb has tales to tell. Nestled beside the glacial river Hvítá, Hvanneyri or "Angelica field" is steeped in legends. It's believed that the Viking Skalla-Grímur KveldÚlfsson once roamed these very lands. This Angelica adds layers of complexity to our Aquavit.

Aquavit Seaweed Dill

Spirits of Iceland presents a truly exceptional Aquavit, uniquely infused with wild seaweed and dill. This is no ordinary spirit, it's an artisanal experience that captures the very essence of Iceland's rugged coastline and rich farmlands. Handpicked red seaweed and locally grown dill set the stage for an aquavit that is as unique as the land it hails from.

Timing

Every August, the team embarks on an adventurous journey to a secluded spot along Iceland’s south coast. Here, they wade into the shallow Atlantic waters at low tide to handpick red seaweed, taking utmost care to leave enough behind for natural regeneration. This seaweed is then sun-dried for a day, locking in its extraordinary savory flavor with subtle oceanic undertones.o.

Vodka

Spirits of Iceland Vodka is not just another vodka, it's a toast to Iceland's rich history and stunning natural resources. This high-quality spirit is a blend of two iconic elements: first-rate alcohol and blessed Icelandic spring water from Gvendarbrunnar, located in South-West Iceland. The result is a very smooth drink, it feels like liquid silk on your palate.

Gvendarbrunnur

Now, let's talk about that magical water. Gvendarbrunnar is no ordinary well; it's named after Guðmundur Góði, an 11th-century Icelandic bishop revered for his goodness and societal contributions. Guðmundur traveled extensively across Iceland, touching the lives of locals and blessing their wells. This water isn't just pure; it's historically significant, capturing the spirit of Icelandic generosity and community.

The story of

Spirit of Iceland

At Spirits of Iceland, our journey began far from the traditional world of distilling. It started in 2015 with a heavy-metal band, a wedding performance, and an unexpected payment: a bottle of moonshine.

That moment sparked something bigger.

Magnús, a drummer with a passion for bold flavors, brought the spirit home to his family. Together with his brother Snorri and their mother Rán, what began as curiosity quickly evolved into experimentation. Rather than leaving the moonshine untouched, they started infusing it with hand-picked Icelandic herbs and berries—wild thyme, blueberries, angelica—capturing the raw essence of the land.

The breakthrough came with seaweed, unlocking a uniquely Icelandic profile—complex, clean, and unmistakably tied to the North Atlantic environment.

With the addition of Hjörtur, a historian and expert taster, the family refined their craft, balancing tradition with innovation. What began as small-batch experimentation soon became a fully realized vision: to create a spirit that embodies Iceland’s untamed nature.
